Natural Remedies

Over the years I have come across some very simple natural remedies for a variety of common ailments, that have worked for many people. Of course you should always see your doctor first to get a proper diagnosis, that just makes common sense. However, I believe there is a definite place for traditional natural remedies that can sometimes be as, or even more effective than over the counter pharmaceuticals. Cheers to your health!

Home Made Electrolyte Drink

During illness or periods of high activity such as excercise we easily lose valuable electrolytes which can be harmful to our overall health.

Shop bought electrolyte drinks are not only expensive, but often contain synthetic minerals which are not bio-available.  You can easily make your own electrolyte drink in just minutes, for a fraction of the cost. Your home made concoction is far superior in it's nutritive value as well!

Electrolytes - as defined by http://medical-dictionary.thefreedictionary.com/electrolytes
Salts and minerals that can conduct electrical impulses in the body. Common human electrolytes are sodium chloride, potassium, calcium, and sodium bicarbonate. Electrolytes control the fluid balance of the body and are important in muscle contraction, energy generation, and almost every major biochemical reaction in the body... Here is my home made electrolyte drink recipe:

1 litre of filtered water
1 lemon, freshly squeezed
1 other citrus fruit of your choice, freshly squeezed
- orange, lime, grapefruit, or another lemon
1/2 tsp Pink Himalayan Sea Salt

Mix all ingredients together and enjoy the benefits!

PS. You can add a little raw honey or coconut sugar if you need a little sweetness. I usually don't add it, but some people really dislike the sour/salty combination and just a little sweetness seems to make it more palatable. It's entirely up to you.

Gout

Apple cider vinegar (ACV) has been reported to relieve gout, acute gout attacks, muscle spasms, joint pain, and arthritis. Although vinegar is acidic, ACV facilitates an alkaline-forming state in the body by stimulating digestive juices, including bicarbonate, that's released by the pancreas.

Bicarbonate is an alkaline substance that helps balance the body's pH levels.

Mix 1 to 2 tablespoons of vinegar in a full glass of water and drink all at once. Always use organic vinegar with the 'mother' intact.
